Description

------
A huge Maple limb buckled under the weight of two feet of heavy wet snow over a week ago, and plunged about 25' onto our deck (see discussion) and 35 feet to the driveway below, blocking both doors of the garage (along with the fallen snow). The house shook so that I imagined the earth quaking below us!
-----------
Early the next morning, we had to saw the branches up and move them off the driveway to make way for the plow...but THAT is another story, perhaps for another day. Hint: He plowed us in! Yep...it's true!

We were just talking yesterday at the meeting (coffee) don't want to sound like I am loafing that's why I call it a meeting. That we will be talking about this winter for years to come. My house is surrounded with those soft maples and they will not hold up under as much ice as a hard wood. Gosh, you do all that work and the city plows you shut. We deal with that here too. #8391575

Chua Wee Boo February 18, 2010

Great composition & capture,Michelle! #8391711

Monnie Ryan February 18, 2010

Hate to see the damage, but had to chuckle about getting plowed in. It happens to us a couple of times every year -- Jack shovels a path behind our car in the driveway just before the city plow drives up the street and pushes a pile at the end to block us in again. Great job with the photo, Michelle! #8391828

Jack Ryan February 18, 2010

Ah! The joys of winter!!! Excellent photo...and my sympathy with the dealing with the problems. #8391895

That's the trouble with soft maple trees. I fight them all summer with storms as my neighbor has a bunch of them and they all blow over my way. #8392242

Great perspective and exposure.
I'm sorry to see the damage.
It's been a rough winter, everywhere.
Right now, the wind is howling as it slams into the south side of my house and drifting snow across my lane.
Spring is on the way, though.
The groundhog said so! #8393857

Oh...looks like you had tons of work. I can remember the sound of trees coming down in an ice storm in Missouri. It was really scarey. Glad your home was ok though. #8403701

Bonnie C. Lackey level-classic February 21, 2010

An unsettling adventure! Thankfully no one was hurt. It's hard to believe that snow can get so heavy on trees but "winter pruning" happens every year. #8404721
