A huge Maple limb buckled under the weight of two feet of heavy wet snow over a week ago, and plunged about 25' onto our deck (see discussion) and 35 feet to the driveway below, blocking both doors of the garage (along with the fallen snow). The house shook so that I imagined the earth quaking below us!
-----------
Early the next morning, we had to saw the branches up and move them off the driveway to make way for the plow...but THAT is another story, perhaps for another day. Hint: He plowed us in! Yep...it's true!

Wow, I can sure relate. We had an entire sycamore tree fall on our fence when we got struck by lightning a couple of years ago. #8390906Douglas Pignet February 18, 2010

Technically, a most awesome image, but sad story, Michelle! This has been the winter from Hell for most people, I just hope the spring isn't fraught with dangers as well! #8391339Kathy Reeves February 18, 2010
I hear you--I am tired of being cold! #8391414Ron McEwan February 18, 2010
We were just talking yesterday at the meeting (coffee) don't want to sound like I am loafing that's why I call it a meeting. That we will be talking about this winter for years to come. My house is surrounded with those soft maples and they will not hold up under as much ice as a hard wood. Gosh, you do all that work and the city plows you shut. We deal with that here too. #8391575Chua Wee Boo February 18, 2010
Great composition & capture,Michelle! #8391711Monnie Ryan February 18, 2010
Hate to see the damage, but had to chuckle about getting plowed in. It happens to us a couple of times every year -- Jack shovels a path behind our car in the driveway just before the city plow drives up the street and pushes a pile at the end to block us in again. Great job with the photo, Michelle! #8391828Jack Ryan February 18, 2010
Ah! The joys of winter!!! Excellent photo...and my sympathy with the dealing with the problems. #8391895MELODIE C. ROBERTS February 18, 2010

That's the trouble with soft maple trees. I fight them all summer with storms as my neighbor has a bunch of them and they all blow over my way. #8392242John Connolly February 18, 2010
Thanks for sharing your winter escapades with us Michelle! I am very happy living in such a moderate climate!Ann H. Belus February 18, 2010
Great perspective here, Michelle; really like the angle, POV. #8392460David Phalen February 18, 2010
Terrific capture of the dangers of winter weather!! Plows always seem to show up just after the driveway has been shoveled! #8392495Nadia Paul February 18, 2010
Sorry to hear of your problems Michelle - a terrific story telling image! #8392918Barbara Waldoch February 18, 2010
I am glad it didn't fall on your roof!Tammy Espino February 18, 2010
I had a tree fall on my home once from wind, scarey! Great capture, even though a bad situation! #8392967Kitty R. Rodehorst-Hanna February 18, 2010
I can totally understand about getting plowed IN instead of out! It happens to us every time it snows!!! Super journalistic image, Michelle!!! :-) k #8393079Tommy E. Burgess February 18, 2010

My dear friend, what a horror story. Sorry you had to go through all that. Glad the worst is behind you now. I think we all have had it with this winter. I do love your story telling abilities. #8402199Laura E. Swan February 20, 2010

Oh...looks like you had tons of work. I can remember the sound of trees coming down in an ice storm in Missouri. It was really scarey. Glad your home was ok though. #8403701Bonnie C. Lackey February 21, 2010
An unsettling adventure! Thankfully no one was hurt. It's hard to believe that snow can get so heavy on trees but "winter pruning" happens every year. #8404721Sign up for an interactive online photography course to get critiques on your photos.
