Moonset, Wilkerson Pass 3

Uploaded: January 09, 2006

Description

Galen Rowell described it as the "twilight wedge", where the earth's cool shadow gives way to the warmer colors of daylight (and vice versa for the end of the day). The moonset series I shot at Wilkerson Pass shows this better than any I've done. The light changes dramatically as the moon sets through the haze and the sun rises. Tripod-mounted Nikon N65 with Nikkor ED 70-300mm lens.

This is so pretty. It reminds me of driving through the desert under a full moon and being able to see for miles and miles. Where is Wilkerson Pass? #371788

Thank you Dorothy for commenting! Wilkerson Pass is about an hour west of Colorado Springs on Highway 24. Whenever I go to the Fairplay area and Buffalo Peaks Wildernsss Area, I stop and enjoy the view, and sometimes some nice light for photos, at the pulloff spot just west of the pass. There are a couple of other shots in my gallery from the same day (one was a Finalist and Photo of the Day #342). #2267873
