NOT for the FAINT of HEART
Uploaded: July 12, 2012
---
Yesterday's post included in the discussion area a photo of a "brand new" little frog, happily (she seemed to be smiling) floating spread-eagled on calm water.
---
I had been worried that she would become easy prey for the voracious Little Green Heron. And in the mid-afternoon yesterday, with me less than two yards away--the deed was done.
-----
The heron had been feasting all day at our pond, and was NOT hungry. But I guess where food is plentiful, the bird will get all he can.
---
The good news is that in the LONG two minutes that this little frog was being repeatedly dunked and turned (Jack G. says the dunking is to clean grass and debris and to lubricate the frog's skin for the swallowing), at least 10 nearby frogs escaped to the far end of the pond.
----
I'm SURE the Little Green Heron is CELEBRATING having found the pond--marauding Blue Jays notwithstanding.

The beauty of nature and the reality of life all caught in one epic moment! This is what comes from knowing your shooting environment and being patient. If the little frog had know what you already knew, the outcome may have been different (at least for him). Wonderful series, Michelle. I also loved the reflections. #10233902Randall J.
