Before/After N. America's oldest art work
Uploaded: March 15, 2011
The art work at the top is considered by Archeologist to be the oldest in North America. It is located in Kelly Cave 41VV165 about 100 yards up Mile Canyon off the Rio Grande. It has faded so bad from weathering it is hardly visible, Top. On bottom I converted it to lre by stretching the colorspace in ImageJ/Dstretch which enhances red and making the artwork more visible.
Exif: F Number: 11, Exposure Bias Value: 1.00, ExposureTime: 2/5 seconds, Flash: did not fire, compulsory flash mode, ISO: 500, White balance: Auto white balance, FocalLength: 24.00 mm, Model: Canon EOS-1D Mark IV

The top capture was as the eye sees it and the camera captures it. ImageJ was a program by NIH to help enhance mammogram interpretation. John Harman developed a plug in for ImageJ that expanded or stretched the colorspace from 2D to 3D greatly magnifying the colors by over a 1,000 fold and by varying the colorspace we have been able to see under dust and other environmental damage. This is greatly improving our ability to see and understand and record this ancient Rock Art (pictographs). On the bottom capture I converted it to lre colorspace which focuses on the reds. #1361088Emile Abbott March 15, 2011
This particular pictograph is thought to be over 5,000 years old and is drawn in the oldest style "Pecos River Style" that we know dates back 4,500 years. Anthropologist believe this is the earliest of the Pecos River Style as it is using only one color red and is much cruder than the other Pecos River Style pictographs. We know that humans lived in these cave/shelters at least 12,000 years ago. It has been my pleasure and passion to help document, record and preserve this valuable resource. Emile G. Thanks Jeff, David and John. I know this will not win anything on BP but thought a few of you might enjoy how I am using some advanced photo technology to hopefully add to our information pool and preserve some valuable art history. #9293300Carol Eade March 15, 2011
