Hi Everyone! Thank you VERY MUCH!

You know what? My image on my end is as sharp as a tack. I was so excited to enter it. It looks a little out of focus here. :( This happens sometimes. I wonder why?

BUT STILL I AM SO EXCITED ABOUT MY NEW CAMERA.

Usman...too late. I already had to get a wide angle too.

Broke till Christmas...Hehe!

Thanks all! Great to see you and your entries were wonderful tonight!

Good Night All!

Hi : Dick, Michelle, Doug, Gord, Steve, Jack, Troy, Kay, Jeff, Monnie, Ruth, Rony, John, Kitty and Tam-tam!

OH BOY IS THIS CAMERA FUN! Cant say I have taken TOO many great shots yet because I have been venturing off into manual without knowing enough about it!

BUT I have taken enough good ones to give me hope for the future! Like a baby with it's BLANKET I will bring old faithful with me as a back up after this so I dont miss the perfect shots like I did a dozen times at the Zoo. DANG! I had a baby gorilla entertained at the glass window. He liked me!!! We had fun! But did I get ONE GOOD SHOT??? NOOOOOOO!

(SIGH)

Michelle, when I go to the zoo I feel sorry for the animals. Kids banging on the windows and making a fuss. Do you know what I do? I sing to the animals.

MAN! It's a show stopper for them. They look at me, sometimes approach me, cock their heads at me...Stare and blink...listen, and enjoy!(Instead of AVOIDING like they usually do around humans!) And I use lullaby tones or soft low songs, like the blues in a way. THEY LOVE IT. Of course I wait till no one is around. The ZOO was almost closed and no one was around when I was singing to this owl. :)

Elephants like singing. Apes do. Exotic birds are suckers for it!!! Many animals like it. :)

Thanks everyone for all you said. I am already wanting a macro lens. I bet it happens around Christmas. If it does you will be seeing some good close ups of my tree ornaments. :) Or little jumping SPIDER FACES if I get it by HALLOWEEN! HA!

This camera is for my job, however. I am thrilled for the upgrade! TRULY!!!

Thank you again

Fantastic image of this beautiful owl Laura. Animals are hard to photograph because they move all the time, like in and out of the sun or shade and just when you've changed all your settings around and you think you've got it, they move again. I'm so thrilled for you with your new camera. It will take a bit of getting used to but it will be worth it. #8715554

Laura E. Swan level-classic June 24, 2010

Yes. I guess so, Ann. It will always be a challenge. Of all people you should know. Thanks for telling me. :) That makes me feel better. I thought for sure I'd get home and MOST of the pics would be great. WRONG! HA!

Thanks for being thrilled for me. don't mind saying that I am, too! :)

This owl was a trick. The white...the green..OH DEAR!

Thanks for the visit!

Thank you for being happy for me with my new rig and also for coming to see what it can do! :) Hopefully it will do many more things that get better and better with practice!

This owl was amazing and totally unafraid. He was only like 5 feet from me on a little hill the zoo build for him.

Hi sis... I'm thrilled for you... great camera.. glad you got it!
YOur zoo babies are GREAT... really, it is so so hard to get a good expression without them moving all the time and getting a big blurr... I take hundreds of images with my cam (don't have the Zoo lens that is needed really)and only 20 come out the way I want!!!
Practise makes perfect they say... and a great long dist. lens..lol..
THis Snowy owl is GORGEOUS!!!!! And no glass or bars/fencelines... awesome shot!!!
I can hear you singing too!!! Hey, wanna get the animals attention and you don't wanna get caught singing to them, bring a big set of keys...and jingle them... they associate keys with FEEDING TIME!! Zoo Keepers all have keys!

WHAT A COOL TIP, SIS! WOW! Thanks and thank you for a most wonderful visit.

:)

I made a lot of mistakes at the ZOO with the ZOO BABIES but I caught a few good ones, too. Made it worth the effort.

Thanks for your encouragement. :) Means lots!

Pom, this is a terrific owl capture! That new camera may take half the credit, but the other half goes to the skills a photographer has. So --- EXCELLENT portrait! :-)
BTW, I thought you'd taken this out "in the wild" on one of your nature walks. Such a gorgeous bird he is! #8722533

Laura E. Swan level-classic June 28, 2010

Thanks Mare! Did you read this thread? Some thought this wasn't even real! :D

I'd be in heaven if I saw this in the wild. This fellow was totally tame. Didn't even flinch that I was there. In the wild he'd have been gone LICKETY SPLIT I'd assume?

Thanks for all you said. :)

Thanks Songbird. This was at the zoo and he was less than ten feel away. It was really special because the zoo had closed and it was quiet. Most people had gone already and it was like he was exhaling and relaxed. :) #8912504
