Here is another one I liked. The petal was blown up in front of the critter (what IS this little guy anyway???) just as I snapped the shutter giving me that "shot" through effect. Maybe the wind can be a good thing. #1277406

Phellos - I know that in ""Breakfast" he is too center-weighted so I gave him a bit more space in the following two image by adding in more background to a new canvas. #8703094

Forget that - I already entered for the day so it won't let me show the other two. It'll have to wait til tomorrow. People seem to be waking up around here so it is time to get off the laptop anyhow! Think we are going to Antelope Island today. #8703104

These are cool Debbie!

I like the detail that you've captured in Breakfast. I'm interested to see your other crops.

Have fun at Antelope Island. I was just out mowing the lawn and it's pretty windy out. It will be more windy out there. Make sure you go down to the ranch, there are tons of photo ops there. #8703242

Nice job Deb...I can't stand tring to take pics of flowers, or bugs for that matter, in the wind! I definitely prefer breakfast over hide and seek..I'm assuming you fixed the center weighted issue because the head appears to be right where it should be in the version that is showing now...Funny, I named one of my bee pics the same thing! #8703415

Beautifully Done Debbie. Your dedication payed off. Love the black and yellow. Agree that Breakfast is my fav. #8703423

The Breakfast one for me too Debbie and I would appreciate knowing what lens you used and the camera settings.
A very striking image but he sure ain't pretty! #8703442

Kathleen Nealon June 18, 2010

I agree that Breakfast is probably technically the better of the two images.
But there is something about 'hide and seek' that I prefer. The bug appears as if in 3D, coming out of a yellow haze to sting me. If there was just a little bit more contrast/definition/sharpness to the left side (picture right side) of his head and limb, I think this image would be great. It is (IMHO) more evocative of nasty insects than the first. #8703754

Great job working with the conditions Debbie!! :) I like the breakfast one better...the focus on the bug and the bright yellow work well!

In the thumbnail it looks like this guy has an open fang mouth...a little freaky if you ask me!! :) #8704293

Breakfast of Champions is it in my book! I think it's great as is...awesome focus! I have done the same thing at times when the wind ticks me off! With these big heavy cameras though you sometimes end up with camera shake because you are doing it with one hand! LOL This guy here looks like he has a Fu Manchu mustache....odd looking guy I have no idea what he is. :~) And I agree with Bean...I saw the fang thing as soon as I looked at the thumbnail. #8704361

I am in the Breakfast camp too. I like the ultra clarity of the critter and think the comp is fine as shown.

From the frontal shot I can not tell what it is ether.

Here is "Breakfast" changed to not-so-centered composition. Looks better to me than the centered one. #8704659

Also, I did the same thing for the other shot. Did these before I left so managed to get them out of my gallery with the numbers. I sure wish I knew WHAT he is! #8704662

Wow! These are great. I think I prefer Hide and Seek. It looks like he's getting ready to eat you. Kinda reminds me of a bad 50's B-Movie.

I have no idea what kind of bug this guy is . . . he sure is ugly.

I do like your last off center post #8704921

Aimee C. Eisaman June 19, 2010

O now my vote goes to transformed....that is a more appealing comp. and it seems brighter too than the last version...I like that. But not that it's brighter that petal at the top is a bit distracting. Clone? :~) #8705169

wow what angry little fellow he is.... great shot Debbie, I really like your original post I like that he is comming out of fog like. Sneak attack... but transformed is cool just a little to bright. great pictures. #8705707

As Kathe mentioned that "Breakfast" is probably technically a better photo, but I love the "Hide and Seek" one...with that mouth looking wide open I immediately thought of "Hide & Sting"!!! Great close-ups of bees I'm so allergic to that I panic when I even see one! Great job! #8711574

Transformed is fabulous. Great colors and clarity. But there is something about Hide and Seek that I really like. Maybe because it is so different, and he does look like he is coming off the page at you. #8715397
