Under Cobwork Bridge
Uploaded: June 08, 2005 03:51:14
The southernmost island of the Harpswell Peninsula is Bailey Island. The numerous coves and bays of the peninsula are commonly filled with anchored sailboats. Bailey Island is connected to Orr Island by the "Cobwork Bridge". The bridge was built in 1928 and constructed with granite blocks laid in such a way that it would not be washed out by intense incoming and outgoing tides. Amazingly, no cement was used in it's original construction. The bridge was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1975. Thanks Kathleen for sharing this bridge with us on our Maine shootout!!

Good morning Jeff, Carolyn Janet and Cindy! I thank you for your views and comments. Janet...didn't we look like a gaggle of females PMS-ing ....what with our spoons digging into our quarts of ice cream eating right from the container!! Would love to camp with you ladies anytime! #1444525Claudia Kuhn June 08, 2005

So well done that I got a little vertigo while viewing this shot, Dolores, the crisp blue and white tones make such a cheerful contrast against the darkened framing of the bridge! #1448058Kristi A. Howson July 22, 2005
