First Drops
Uploaded: April 15, 2007 06:54:03
EF 100mm Macro, f/5.6, 1/200th Second, ISO100, -2/3ev, remote + mirror lockup, RAW.
These small flowers were the edging along a patio. The skies kept threatening rain with little bursts
of sprinkles off and on. The result was wonderful little droplets on the petals, everywhere I looked!
(Shot with Canon 400XTi/Rebel, not Sony DSCH1, as I mistakenly indicated at upload)

This is beautiful Chris ~ I love the sharpness of the water drop against the soft-focus flowers .. great shot! #4169438Dominick M. Dimacale April 15, 2007
Great capture here Christopher...Dominick #4171495Chris Budny April 16, 2007
Thank you, Joy, Sherry, Bob, Katarina, Susie & Dominick, for your encouraging feedback! Using this new lens effectively is definitely a learning experience for me! #4173174Mick Burkey April 16, 2007
Excellent work, Chris!! The focus on the water drop is stunning. The colors of the flower and overall tone are wonderful. And, hey, I see you got your DSLR. Congrats? Or did I miss it and you've had it for awhile? In any case, you're certainly putting it to good use. ;-) #4174072Chris Budny April 16, 2007
Thanks so much, Mick! No, you're not too far behind... I've only had the SLR for about 2 weeks now; haven't even clicked off 300 images with it yet! #4174323Don Johnson April 17, 2007
Another wonderful shot. I love the sharpness of the water drop, but I, personally, would have liked the center of the flower to be a little sharper. I suspect, however, I am in the minority. In any event, it is still a beautiful shot.If you start shooting flowers like you do the Cathedral, we are all in trouble. #4178206
Chris Budny April 17, 2007
Thank you very much, Don! I have another shot of these flowers (no droplet) where the center is the focus. But I don't know that I have any with the whole flower in focus, given the super shallow DOF of that lens! An excuse to go back! #4178852John Caruso April 17, 2007
Stellar work, Chris. The color, the light, the detail, the DOF: they are all super! #4179066Chris Budny April 18, 2007
Thanks so much, John! #4181830Laura Bailey April 18, 2007

Thanks so much, Graeme! #4217114Nikki McDonald May 18, 2007
Great work here, Chris. I see what Don means, but I found it refreshingly different to have the focus on the three drops rather than the flower's center. Either way, we all agree that this is a beauty. #4296358Chris Budny May 20, 2007
Thanks, Nikki! Still remains one of my early favorites with the new camera gear! #4302795Susan M. Hembree May 22, 2007
Wow, Chris, I really like this! The details with the water droplets and the softness of the image is just outstanding. And the color all around is gorgeous. Nice job and I do hope to see this in the winner's list for April. Sue #4313452Chris Budny May 23, 2007
